5 Back-to-School Routines That Make Life Easier

Schedules typically become more hectic for families as kids head back to school. Your Yonomi Home can make a number of daily activities a little easier, especially when you create customized Routines. It may make sense to automate certain Routines while running others when needed with a tap in the Yonomi app or by asking Alexa to turn it on for you. Below are five suggestions to get you started. 1. Wake Up, Automatically

Rousting everyone out of bed in the morning can be tough. Yonomi can make mornings a little easier. A wake up Routine triggered at 6am, for example, can automatically:

  • Turn on your Philips Hue or LIFX bulbs in each bedroom
  • Broadcast today’s weather on your Sonos
  • Start up your WeMo Mr. Coffee

If you wake up before your kids, set separate wake up Routines for your bedroom and theirs.

 

2.  Lock Up and Save Energy When You Leave

When you’re running out the door to get everyone where they need to be on time, Yonomi can save you precious time…and that dash back upstairs to turn off lights. A leave home Routine triggered automatically when you leave the house can:

  • Turn off any of your connected devices (lights, TV, lamps, etc)
  • Adjust your thermostat to save energy
  • Lock the door  

You can set another Routine to turn on certain lights and even the TV to make it look like you’re home during the day.

 
 

3. Homework Time

Help establish it’s time to hit the books by turning on a homework Routine that will:

  • Play classical music on your Sonos
  • Turns on your Philips Hue light, programmed to ‘concentrate’, in your study area
  • Have Logitech Harmony Hub shut off the TV
 

4. Family Dinner Time

There’s no need to yell out “it’s dinner time” — simply tell Alexa “Turn On Dinner Time” to run your family dinner time Routine, putting your smart home devices to work in gathering everyone around the table.

  • Broadcast “it’s dinner time” on your Sonos
  • Set your lights to flash a few times
  • Have Logitech Harmony Hub shut off the TV
  • Then have your Sonos play your family’s favorite dinner time music

5. Goodnight

A good night Routine can help everyone get settled into bed.

  • Turn off the main lights
  • Turn on nightlights plugged into WeMo Switches
  • Have your Sonos play white noise to help you fall, and stay, asleep
  • Adjust your thermostat to save energy overnight
  • Lock the door
